The Ride 2019 Canceled Due To Weather
Madison, Wis. – Due to impending weather for the day as well as the safety of participants and volunteers, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has canceled The Ride: a bicycle benefit for cancer research scheduled for September 22nd at the American Family Insurance headquarters campus in Madison, WI. The annual bicycle fundraiser has collectively raised over $1 million for UW cancer research and patient treatment initiatives in its first four years and will continue to power the brightest minds and ideas in cancer research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Ride will take place next year on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
The Ride’s most precious resource is our people: 1650+ riders, 200+ volunteers, several thousand family members (including many children) and several thousand financial contributors to the mission. We are committed to ensure their safety and therefore have officially canceled The Ride for Sept 22, 2019. There is simply too much threat from thunderstorms, relentless rain and standing water along the course. The Ride will be back stronger and larger than ever on Sept 27th, 2020. Our hearts go out to all cancer patients and families. The Ride’s mission remains intact, to eradicate cancer for future generations. See you in 2020!The Ride Co-Founders,Deric Wheeler PhD and Paul Harari MD
So sorry the ride had to be canceled. Your Crew did a fabulous job setting up thank you for all your efforts.
We were sad that the event was cancelled, but still had a great time taking the event indoors by completing the 102 miles that we had signed up for!
Looking forward to participating (hopefully outdoors) next year.
