How do I get involved in The Ride?

August 21st, 2017  |  Rob Kelly

Community participation powers The Ride, a bicycle benefit for cancer research at the University of Wisconsin. Even if you are not an avid cyclist, there are plenty of opportunities for you to support this effort and help us work toward improving outcomes for cancer patients. Here’s how:

Register to ride—With a choice of five routes, The Ride offers cyclists of all abilities the chance to enjoy the beautiful Wisconsin countryside while supporting advances in cancer research aimed at improving treatment and saving lives. It’s easy to register and begin raising money to support cancer research at the University of Wisconsin. Once you register you will receive a URL to your personal fundraising page that you can send to family and friends to help you reach your fundraising goal.

Register as a virtual rider—If you can’t ride or if biking doesn’t appeal to you, you can still help us raise funds by becoming a Virtual Rider. Registration and fundraising are the same as for physical riders, but Virtual Riders do not pay a registration fee.

Donate—Please donate to the rider, virtual rider or team of your choice and help us reach our fundraising goal of $500,000. Thanks to our generous sponsors, 100 percent of your donation will go toward research projects that bring discoveries from the lab into the clinic to improve treatments and increase cure rates.

Volunteer—The Ride relies on more than 100 volunteers who help with set up, work the bike corral, check gear, distribute food and beverages, serve as course marshal and greet riders at the finish line. See our volunteer page to find the support role best suits you.

Tell your friends—In addition to raising money for cancer research, The Ride is a fun and inspiring community that helps us show our support to those affected by cancer. And the more people who participate, the greater impact we can have. Please encourage others to register, volunteer or donate. See you on Sept. 17!
